Rainbow baby newborn photo sessions can be a sensitive subject, please make sure you feel comfortable before reading this.
The vast majority of mothers who come to my studio in St. Augustine FL are celebrating their rainbow babies. I work closely with each family before their baby’s photo shoot to make sure that everything is carefully planned out; from the props we use to the bold/neutral/earth tone color schemes, I make sure that each session is unique and catered to your preferences and needs. During my consultations I show many samples to the couple who comes in and we talk about their journey. Some journeys are pure joy and the couple can’t wait to meet their baby, but more often than not there have been losses along the way and rigorous rounds of IVF. These journeys can be extremely emotional and so I make sure to take the time to sit and listen to each unique story and pass the box of tissues when needed. Many families would like to incorporate their angel babies into their photo shoot but are unsure of how to do it in a subtle way. Sometimes it doesn’t need to be subtle and we can put in a past ultrasound, a photograph, or a stuffed animal that is representative of the babies who couldn’t be with us the day of the session. Many times I use my rainbow felt prop, my rainbow hearts, and different studio set ups to represent past losses and to celebrate this beautiful rainbow baby that’s with us now. There is no right or wrong way to feel about your baby’s session and I have no judgements for couples who come to me with how they choose to handle their journey. Some moms feel a lack of connection with their pregnancy because they don’t want to “jinx” it, some moms have an unbearable amount of anxiety just allowing me to hold their baby in order to wrap them for the session. Both are normal and my studio is a place you are safe to be yourself and talk about your concerns and ask questions.
